About Dan's Carpet & Laminates

Hello and thank you for visiting Dan's Carpet & Laminates website.

First let me tell you how we got started in November of 1968. I had just returned home from the military and resumed my job as an assembler for Sunray Stove and Ovens. While working at Sunray I struggled to make $120 per week with over-time. Then on May 2 of 1970 I decided to say "I do" to the love of my life, Rose. Well, as everyone finds out quickly after marriage, $120 per week just is not enough to survive on. I spent most of the summer of 1970 looking for a better job to help us with our goals and future plans. I wanted to purchase a home and Rose wanted to fill it with kids, ha, ha. Unfortunately most of the available jobs around our area were not paying much more than minimum wage, which I was already making. While evaluating other career paths I decided to venture out and start my own business cleaning carpet on weekends and evenings.

Over the next 10 to 15 years of working my day job and cleaning carpets in the evenings and weekends, I learned a lot about people's needs with their flooring. When my eldest son, Mark, was 10 years old I took him with me on his "1st cleaning trip." Ten minutes on the job I hollered for him and he did not respond, so I became a little worried because I knew a 10 year old boy in someone else's home could cause a lot of trouble. After hollering again for him the customer hollered back and said "Dan come to the basement." When I got to the basement, I had a great laugh because Mark was in front of the television watching Scooby Doo Cartoons. I eventually had the customer help me move the furniture and do Mark's job (yes, I paid Mark for watching television). When Mark was around 13 years old we were asked several times by our customers if we did other work with flooring such as repairs and I replied "no." On the way home Mark asked why we didn't sell flooring and do repairs and that's pretty much how Dan's Carpet & Laminates got its start.

We now sell and install all types of flooring. We qualify customers by telephone, finding out the type of flooring, colors, quality etc., and take the samples directly to their homes. We find by doing this it allows the customer to get a better feel for colors and it makes it easier for them to pick out what they want. If the customer is unable to find what they want we send them to one of our showrooms.

Thanks so much for taking the time out to view our web site and giving us the opportunity to meet with you. After all it's truly people like you that makes a small business a successful business.
